Whether your lifestyle is a quiet residential neighborhood, riverfront condo, or raising your family in the country. Shasta County is unique in its variety of lifestyles. All are minutes from downtown.

If your dreams include mountain vistas, river or lakefront settings, and all without the traffic, Shasta County has it.

    Law Enforcement
Firm, no nonsense policies by police and sheriffs departments, with close support of the criminal justice system, have placed the Shasta county crime rate in the lowest third of counties in the state. Gang-related crime is zero.

    Flourishing Business
Growth of the business community has been steady during recent years, as more and more companies have discovered the efficiencies of operating where land and cost of doing business is low. As the largest city between Sacramento and Portland, Redding serves as a regional hub for transportation, medicine, industrial production, and retail services.

    Shopping & Convenience
Some of the best-known names in retailing have located in Shasta county. A growing mix of shopping areas including a regional mall, factory outlets, numerous specialty shops, and developing shopping centers create an extensive combination of choices.

    A Changing City
Public services are concentrated at the new City Hall in Redding that features a "one stop" department for construction planning, permits and approvals. The city council promotes a "can do" philosophy to encourage business expansion and development. Redding produces its own electricity, and is insulated from power shortages.

    Higher Education
Choice best describes educational opportunities in Shasta County. Twenty-five school districts, 26 private schools, a charter school and facilities for Headstart and the handicapped form the backbone of education in the area. Collegiate education is available at Shasta Community College, Simpson University with a four-year liberal arts program, and the facilities of National University.

    Recreation & Adventure
Wild trout are commonly hooked in the Sacramento River as it flows through Redding. Numerous lakes including huge Lake Shasta afford uncrowded water recreation, while other outdoor activities range from camping in national parks to hiking in wilderness areas. In the winter, nearby mountains provide downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.

    Concerts & Stage
The Redding Convention Center presents big name entertainers, traveling stage and dance groups, and a variety of musical events throughout the year. There are two local theater groups and regular gatherings of musicians. Additional events are held at the two college campuses.

    Changing Downtown
A combination of citizens groups working with the City of Redding is creating a revitalized downtown. Historic buildings and theaters are being restored, public art installed and sidewalks widened and landscaped. Other attractions are bringing a new look to the old part of town.

    Center for Medicine
Medical facilities in Shasta county compare with those of any large metropolitan area. All medical specialties are available in Redding ranging from heart surgery and state of art cancer treatments, to neo-natal care and laser surgery. The only veterans’ medical facility north of Sacramento is located in Redding.

    A New Landmark
Most striking of Redding’s new features is the Pedestrian Bridge at Turtle Bay. Designed by the world-renowned Spanish architect Dr. Santiago Calatrava, this 725 foot long bridge will span the Sacramento River and connect the Turtle Bay museum complex with twelve miles of the Sacramento River Trail.

    Museums & The Environment
The Turtle Bay Museums and Arboretum, a $46 million project on 33 acres adjacent to the Sacramento River, are a major center of cultural activities. Interactive family and education facilities in the area include a planetarium, the Carter House Natural Science Museum of Art and History, and other facilities that enhance the character of the county
